How to use it
Choose a genre chip to point the word pool at a particular mood — leave it on the generic mix if you don't want a genre lean at all. Can I generate names for a specific genre, like Metal or Jazz?
Yes. The genre chips switch which word pool the generator draws from — Rock, Metal, Punk, Indie, Pop, Electronic, Folk, Hip-hop, Jazz, or a genre-neutral generic mix. Each pool has its own set of adjectives and nouns chosen to fit that genre's mood, so a Metal name and a Jazz name read very differently even from the same pattern.
What do the style patterns like "The ___" and "___ of ___" mean?
They're the grammatical shapes real band names tend to follow: "The ___" (The Rolling Stones-style), "___ and the ___s" (a lead name plus a backing group), a single striking word, a plain two-word pairing, and "___ of ___" for a more evocative phrase. Pick one pattern to stay consistent, or leave "Mix it up" selected to get a different pattern on every name.
Can I include my own word in the generated names?
Yes — type a word into the seed word field before generating and the tool works it into most of the results in place of a word it would otherwise have picked from the bank. It's screened the same way the bundled word bank is, so anything that fails a basic safe-for-work check is quietly ignored rather than used.
Is a generated name guaranteed to be available or not already used?
No — this tool only combines words to suggest ideas. It has no connection to any trademark register, band directory, or streaming service, and cannot tell you whether a name is already taken. Before you commit to a name, search it plus "band" on the web and streaming platforms, and check your country's trademark database if you plan to use it commercially.
Does this tool check trademarks or register a name for me?
No. It has no database of existing bands or trademarks and makes no legal check of any kind — it's a starting point for brainstorming, not a clearance search or a registration service.
Are the generated names appropriate for all audiences?
The entire word bank is written to be family- and classroom-safe — no sexual, violent, drug-related, or otherwise adult content in any genre pool. A typed seed word is checked against the same standard, and anything that fails is dropped rather than used.
Does this store or track anything about me?
No. Names are generated fresh in your browser on every click and nothing about your seed word, genre choice, or generated names is saved or sent anywhere.
Can I get more than 8 names at once?
Each click of Generate produces eight — just click it again for eight more. There's no saved history between batches, so copy the ones you like before generating a fresh set.
Use cases & limitations
Where this is genuinely useful
- Breaking writer's block. Staring at a blank "band name" field is a real barrier to starting a project — a batch of eight ideas gives you something to react to, even if you end up combining two of them or riffing on one.
- Matching a genre's feel. The genre pools are tuned so a Metal idea and a Folk idea don't sound like they came from the same list, which is useful if you already know roughly what you're going for.
- Naming placeholder projects. A working title for a demo folder, a setlist, or a fictional band in a story doesn't need the same scrutiny as a name you'll perform under for years.
What this tool cannot do
- It cannot check whether a name is taken. There's no database lookup, no trademark search, and no connection to any streaming service or band directory — see the FAQ above for what to check before you commit to a name.
- It won't generate a logo, genre-specific artwork, or a tagline. This is words only, combined by pattern — nothing visual and nothing beyond the name itself.
- The word bank is fixed. Every word comes from the bundled pools; there's no AI text generation and nothing invented per visit beyond the combination itself.
