How to hit an exact width and height

  1. Load your image above.
  2. If the required size shares your photo's natural proportions, leave Lock aspect ratio on and type just the width or just the height — the other fills in automatically.
  3. If it does not share your photo's proportions (a square requirement from a landscape photo, for example), turn the lock off and type both numbers directly. The image will be stretched or squeezed to exactly that frame.
  4. Check the live preview and the "New size" readout match the numbers you were given, then download.

A locked resize always preserves how the photo looks — nothing distorts, because both dimensions scale by the same factor. An unlocked resize hits an arbitrary exact size but can visibly stretch the image if the source isn't already close to that shape. If stretching looks wrong for your use, crop to the target ratio in a photo editor first, then resize here without unlocking the ratio.

Converting a print size to pixels

Forms that ask for pixels and print jobs that ask for inches or centimetres are asking two different questions, and this tool only answers the pixel one. To convert:

pixels = inches × target PPI (pixels per inch)

300 PPI is the common figure for print-quality output. A 4×6 inch print at 300 PPI needs 1200×1800 pixels; an A4 sheet (8.27×11.69 inches) at 300 PPI needs roughly 2481×3508 pixels. Work out the pixel figure first, then enter it in the width and height fields above.

How do I hit an exact width and height that don't share the original's ratio?

Turn off "Lock aspect ratio" before typing the second number. With the lock on, setting a width always recalculates the height (or vice versa) from the original image's own ratio, so you can only reach dimensions that share that ratio. With the lock off, width and height are independent — type both numbers exactly and the image is stretched or squeezed to fit them, which is normal and expected for a platform that demands, say, exactly 1200×630 from a source photo that isn't naturally that shape.

What dimensions do common platforms actually require?

It varies by platform and by placement (profile photo vs. cover photo vs. shared-link preview), and platforms change these numbers over time without much notice. Treat any number you've seen quoted as a starting point to verify against that platform's own current help pages rather than a fixed constant, then type the confirmed figure into the width and height fields here.

Why does the image look stretched after I unlocked the aspect ratio?

Because that is what setting width and height independently does — the browser maps every source pixel to fit exactly the frame you specified, so a portrait photo squeezed into a wide, short frame will visibly compress vertically. If a required size does not match your photo's natural framing, cropping to that ratio first (in any photo editor) before resizing here usually looks far better than stretching the whole frame.

Can I resize to a physical print size like 4×6 inches instead of pixels?

Not directly — this tool works in pixels, because a pixel dimension is what image files, canvases and most upload forms actually store and check.
