Words With Friends unscrambler

Type the tiles on your rack. Mark any blank tile with ? or *, and this lists every word a large English dictionary contains that your rack can build, longest first — read the dictionary note below before you rely on a result mid-game.

Read this before you play a word

This tool checks a general English dictionary of roughly 204,000 words. It was not built from, and is not kept in sync with, any specific game's official word list — the two overlap heavily, since both are built on standard English, but they are not identical. Some words found here will not be accepted by a particular game's own validator, and a small number a game accepts might not appear here. Use this to generate strong candidates quickly, then let the game's own move-check have the final say.

This page is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Words With Friends, its publisher, or any other named game or its maker.

Working from a tile rack

  • Type the whole rack at once. The tool checks every length from 2 letters up to your full tile count in a single pass — you don't need to guess a word length first.
  • Blanks become wildcards. A rack with one or two blank tiles just gets a ? or * in their place; the tool tries every letter each one could be.
  • Longest first, but shorter isn't wasted. Results group by length because a longer word usually scores more, but the shorter groups matter when the board doesn't have room, or when you need to connect to a specific existing tile.
  • Use the filters to fit the board. Starts with, Ends with and Contains narrow a long list down to words that actually connect where you need them to.
  • Sort out anagram sets. A single rack can contain more than one valid word of the same length — the tool lists all of them side by side so you can pick based on the board, not guess and check one at a time.

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter a blank tile?

Type ? or * where the blank sits in your rack. It's treated as any single letter, and every word that becomes possible once it's filled in is included in the results — up to two blanks at once.

Will every word this tool finds be accepted by the game?

Not guaranteed. This tool checks a large general English dictionary, not the specific word list Words With Friends validates plays against. The two overlap heavily but are not identical — treat a result here as a strong candidate to try, not a certainty, and let the game's own in-app check have the final word.

My rack has 7 tiles. Do I need to do anything differently?

No — type all 7 as normal. The tool automatically looks at every length from 2 letters up to however many tiles you supply, so a 7-tile rack shows 7-letter words down to 2-letter words in one pass, without needing to set a length filter first.

Can I search for a word that connects to a specific letter already on the board?

Yes. Open Filters and use Starts with, Ends with or Contains together with your rack's letters — for example, if you need a word ending in the letter already on the board, put it in Ends with and the results narrow to only words that work there.

Does typing my rack into this tool ever affect the actual game?

No. This page has no connection to the game, its servers, or your account — it's an independent, unaffiliated dictionary search that runs in your browser. Nothing you type here is sent anywhere, and nothing it shows you is submitted as a move on your behalf.
